This paper examines the presence of Greek artworks depicting Alexander the Great in the city of Rome at the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Principate. After compiling an inventory of these works, we aim to argue that they were not only used as spoils of war symbolizing Rome’s victory over the Macedonians, but also to spread other messages, particularly in the forum of Augustus. We also look at their distribution and reuse outside Rome, focusing on the example of Lanuvium.
