George Zacos’s gift of Byzantine seals to the Bibliothèque nationale de France includes a seal that can be dated to the 11th century. It bears text on both sides, giving the name of the sigillant (a Constantine), his honorary titles (patrikios, anthypatos, and vestes), and his offices (a judge of the Velum and hypatos of the philosophers). There is no doubt that this Constantine is the famous writer and political figure who wrote on so many topics, that is, Constantine-Michael Psellos. There is only one person to hold the title of hypatos of the philosophers at that time. His career is somewhat obscure on some points, for example when he was a judge in the theme of the Thracesians. Two bilateral seals belong to a Constantine, judge of the Thracesians. One of them could belong to Psellos, but this is not as certain as for the Zacos seal. The seal of a Leo Psellos is also discussed.

Elle précise le nom du sigillant, Constantin, ses dignités de patrice, anthypatos et vestès et ses fonctions de juge du Velum et d’hypatos des philosophes. L’identification avec le polygraphe contemporain et célèbre homme politique, Constantin-Michel Psellos, ne fait pas de doute, car la fonction d’hypatos des philosophes ne connaît qu’un titulaire au même moment. Sa carrière comprend des points obscurs, notamment son passage comme juge dans le thème des Thracésiens. Deux bulles bilatérales d’un Constantin, juge des Thracésiens, sont conservées, dont l’une au moins pourrait être attribuée à Psellos. L’attribution – vraisemblable – est toutefois moins certaine que celle de la bulle Zacos. En appendice est fournie l’édition du plomb de Léon Psellos.
