Jean-François Breton, « Kwiha (Tigray) A Preliminary Aksumite Pottery Typology », HAL SHS (Sciences de l’Homme et de la Société), ID : 10670/1.cada89...
The existence of an Aksumite site on the Č̣erqos Kwiḥa tell, long suspected due to the presence of monolithic pillars near the hilltop, was confirmed in 2015 by the study of ceramic fragments collected on surface. Surveys and excavations carried out at the site in 2018 and 2019 are bringing new insights into its organization and occupation chronology. Two monumental buildings have been partially uncovered, with well-dated occupation levels, notably between the second and seventh centuries. Their architecture is typical of Aksumite buildings. Ceramic material from the excavations, combined with radiocarbon dating, enables now a preliminary comparison with the assemblages observed on the surface.
