Sigmund Freud, at Theodor Meynert’s request, presented a synopsis of his research on the structure of the fibre of nerve cells to the Psychia­tric Viennese Society on February 14th 1884. This consisted essentially of a resumption of the results of the work on crayfish undertaken in Ernst Brücke’s physiology laboratory, first made known to the Academy of Science and published in their bulletin in January 1882.
