The results of two researches concerning the motivations, the obstacles and the anchor points, conducted among 13 of the male students in social work of the UQAT and 13 other subscribers in a social working program in a Chilean university, give access to converging and complementary views on the dimensions bound to the motivations, the obstacles and the anchor points in their university paths. From the point of view of motivations, although they are not the same for them, they are varied and associated with the trajectories of life. When it comes to barriers and obstacles, the results showed in both groups of men a common dimension: the historic, cultural and societal influence bound to the dimension of kind. One has to note particularly with the Chilean men that one of the obstacles hints towards a certain misunderstanding and depreciation of the social work. Yet, the anchor points which make these chiliean and quebecker men invest in social work are varied and are lived in a different ways according to their journeys in life.

Les résultats de deux recherches portant sur les motivations, les obstacles et les points d’ancrage, réalisée auprès 13 d’étudiants hommes en travail social de l’UQAT et 13 autres inscrits dans un programme de travail social dans une université chilienne, donnent accès à des regards croisés et complémentaires sur des dimensions liées aux motivations, aux obstacles et aux points d’ancrage dans leur parcours universitaire. Sur le plan de motivations, bien qu’elles ne soient pas les mêmes pour eux, elles sont variées et associées aux trajectoires de vie. En ce qui trait aux barrières et obstacles, les résultats ont montré dans les deux groupes d’hommes une dimension commune : l’influence historique, culturelle et sociétale liée à la dimension de genre. Force est de constater particulièrement chez les hommes chiliens une d’obstacle faisant allusion à une certaine méconnaissance et la dévalorisation du travail social. Or, les points d’ancrage qui font que ces hommes chiliens et québécois s’investissent dans le travail social sont variés et se vivent de façon différente selon leur parcours de vie.
