La participation parentale à l’école maternelle à l’épreuve du handicap

Depuis la loi de 2005, la scolarisation des enfants en situation de handicap est devenue une question de droit. La loi accorde une nouvelle place aux parents sur le terrain de l’école, et la maternelle est particulièrement touchée par ces évolutions. Quelle place pour chacun des partenaires concernés au sein de l’école maternelle ? L’analyse d’entretiens de recherche menés auprès de parents d’enfants en situation de handicap et d’enseignantes exerçant en maternelle nous a permis d’identifier les épreuves et les obstacles à surmonter pour créer du lien dans la rencontre. Le concept d’entre-deux de Daniel Sibony (1991) s’est avéré très utile pour traiter la question de la posture enseignante propre à favoriser la participation parentale. Il importe pour l’enseignant de trouver l’entre-deux dans la rencontre avec les parents, en s’attachant à réduire les écarts et en misant sur les points communs.

Parental Participation in Pre-school in the face of the Handicap TestSince the law of 2005, school attendance of pupils in situation of disability has become a matter of rights. The parents have a new place in the school and nursery school is particularly affected with this change. What place for every partner in this relationship? From analysis of research interviews with parents and teachers in nursery school concerned with disability, we have located hardships and hurdles to overcome with the aim of produce educational bond in that meeting. The concept of ‘go-between’ developed by Daniel Sibony (1991) is proved very operational to study the go-between position of teachers favourable to parental involvement. The success of that meeting depends on acknowledge, understanding and mutual trust between parents and teachers. It’s important for the teacher to find the go-between position towards the parents. The bond in go-between position is present when the teachers establish a relation founded on reduction of differences and valorization of common points.
