The aim of this study is to determine the forms, effects and limits of fact-checking about climate change. This emerging textual genre consists in the rectification of fake news by opposing two representations: one considered as potentially false or misleading, the other as factual and therefore irrefutable. After recalling the challenges in terms of communication and language that the fight against climate change has to face, the study analyses a corpus taken from Austrian fact-checking website mimikama.at. In an empirical-inductive approach, the analysis brings to light the generic characteristics at the macro- and microtextual levels in order to discuss the impact and the limits of fact-checking in climate communication.

L’objectif de cette contribution est de déterminer les formes, les effets et les limites du fact-checking sur le changement climatique. Ce genre textuel émergent met en scène la rectification de fake news en opposant deux représentations : l’une considérée comme potentiellement fausse, voire trompeuse, l’autre comme factuelle et donc irréfutable. Après avoir rappelé les enjeux en termes de communication et de langage que revêt la lutte contre le changement climatique, la contribution propose l’analyse d’un corpus extrait du site autrichien de fact-checking mimikama.at. Dans une démarche empirico-inductive, l’analyse met au jour les caractéristiques génériques à l’échelle macro- et microtextuelle afin de pouvoir ensuite considérer l’impact et les limites du fact-checking dans la communication climatique.
