La 2 (Spanish Radio Television’s second channel) has probably been the Spanish TV channel which has made a greater commitment to the artistic and cultural content. However, this programming strategy led usually to lower ratings. So, when in 2006 the new RTVE Corporation was launching, replacing the previously existing RTVE Public Entity, one of its objectives was to achieve greater competitiveness and to stop being conceived as a minorities TV channel. This research aims to analyze the impact of that change and the new policy in the cultural contents of the channel, analyzing one week of the second season’s programming in 2006 and the same period in 2007.
