This paper investigates the relation between graphical sequences and grammatical units in Old and Middle French, in order to establish whether this relation is spontaneous or reflexive. The objective is to demonstrate that such relations are useful in gaining a better understanding of lexicalization and grammaticalization processes. These phenomena are thus provided a further angle of inquiry.

Cette contribution interroge le rapport (réflexif ou spontané ?) qu’entretiennent, en ancien et moyen français, les segments graphiques avec certaines unités linguistiques envisagées en tant qu’unités grammaticales. L’objet est de montrer qu’ils apparaissent comme un lieu privilégié de l’observation des phénomènes de lexicalisation et de grammaticalisation du français et que leur étude en diachronie contribuera à une meilleure approche de ces faits de langue.
