Undertaken in advance of gravel extraction, during the winter of 1995/6 a five hectare site was excavated within an extension to ARC's quarry at Barleycroft Farm, Needingworth. Falling within the Ouse floodplain, it lies on the edge of an alluviated first/second gravel terrace along the west bank of the river near its junction with the fen basin (TL 351-7/722-7).
