Jean Étienne et al., « Confessions of an explorer », Études, ID : 10670/1.d4fa2b...
When we first met Jean-Louis Étienne, we agreed with one another that it was strange to see him in person. Because, generally, our idols turn out to be a bit cut off from reality. What is more, this was someone who had explored the poles, something that seemed barely believable or possible. Since that first meeting, we have been through lockdown and our horizons have shrunk. We never stopped thinking about him and about exploration, seeing as the world was off limits. Yet, everyone has dreamed of incredible landscapes and perhaps even of being an explorer. How can we understand this imaginary of exploration? What drives it? What do we seek to uncover about the planet, about humankind, and about ourselves?
