Gérard Pithon et al., « Transmission of Values in La Réunion through Three Generations of Men or Women, Catholic or Hindu », La revue internationale de l’éducation familiale, ID : 10670/1.d79f7c...
The island of La Réunion is an ideal place to study the transmission of values through generations in different cultures. 114 people (Catholic or Hindu), 38 male or female unisexual triads (teenagers, parents and grandparents) have completed the Portrait Values Questionnaire by Schwartz (2006) on ten core values. This typology is a system that can evolve with historical context and the groups considered. The Catholic group has a relatively stable system, whereas the Hindu one is experiencing a break with tradition, grandparents and parents preferring collective values of continuity (tradition, conformity) and teens being attracted by values of individual openness to change (hedonism, autonomy). An assimilative logic may characterize the value system of Hindu teenagers, aligning with the value system of the Catholics, the oldest and the largest community on the island.
