The purpose of this paper is to show that not taking into account clearing costs does not allow correct description of cultivated land dynamics when food demand would require for agriculture an increasing fraction of available land. We also show that the validity of the conclusions about the maximal extension of the cultivated land domain derived from a static land allocation model critically depends on clearing cost function characteristics.Classification JEL:Q15, Q24
