The text of the alliance between Athens, Argos, Mantineia and Elis in 420 BC is transmitted by Thucydides (5.47) and is also preserved by an Attic inscription (IG I3 83). Some passages differ in these two sources. Some scholars contend that the source of Th. 5.47 is in fact the copy set out in the sanctuary at Olympia, but this hypothesis must be rejected on several accounts. This paper shows that Thucydides’ role in the transmitted text of 5.47 has been underestimated. La alianza de 420 a.C. entre Atenas, Argos, Mantinea y Elis es transmitida por Tucídides (5.47) y se conserva también en una inscripción ática (IG I3 83). Ambas fuentes presentan diferencias en algunos pasajes. Algunos autores sostienen que la fuente de Th. 5.47 es la copia expuesta en el santuario de Olimpia, pero varios hechos contradicen esta hipótesis. Este trabajo pretende probar que el papel de Tucídides en el texto transmitido en 5.47 ha sido subestimado.
