Jean Greisch, « Places of Self: Towards a Hermeneutics of Self by the Other », Revue de métaphysique et de morale, ID : 10670/1.dbb172...
In comparing Heidegger’s and Marion’s reading of the Confessions, one discovers two « hermeneutics of selfhood » that are both similar as regards their phenomenological aims and extremely different as regards their results. The presuppositions of Marion’s phenomenology of giveness lead him to develop a « topological » analysis in two senses of the word : it focuses on the different « places » where the self encounters itself; it ponders the ordeal in which the self replaces the self-certainty by a truth that puts it radically in question.
