Italian cinema and the Holocaust: looking back at the last 15 years (2001-2015)My article analyzes the Italian films and TV fiction about the Holocaust from the last 15 years. By defining the current storytelling topics, models and formats, I will attempt to demonstrate how representations of the Holocaust in visual culture have undergone a radical transformation since the introduction of Italy’s Remembrance Day in 2000. That serves as the basis for comparing works such as Concorrenza sleale (2001, Ettore Scola), Perlasca (2002, Alberto Negrin), La finestra di fronte (2003, Ferzan Özpetek), Il peccato e la vergogna (2010, Luigi Parisi and Alessio Inturri) and This must be the place (2011, Paolo Sorrentino) with a number of characteristic aspects of Italian cinema on the Holocaust that defined the preceding period.
