Nessim Znaien, « Alcohol in the heart of the city : Controlling the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in Tunis, Marseille, and Naples during the interwar period », 20 & 21. Revue d'histoire, ID : 10670/1.dd5966...
This article analyses the city management of bars and public alcohol consumption in the Mediterranean cities of Marseille, Tunis, and Naples during the interwar period. It seeks to determine how social control operated with regard to daily activities and at the local scale, in three cities which experienced different political regimes during this period (republican democracy, fascist dictatorship, colonial protectorate). This article offers a comparative history of urban governance issues between territories from the north and the south of the Mediterranean region, by examining policies concerning bars, bar operators, and consumers of alcoholic beverages in the city.
