Κατά τον 18ο αιώνα οι εσχατολογικές ανησυχίες των υπόδουλων Ελλήνων εντείνονται, ενώ παράλληλα οι προσδοκίες τους για απελευθέρωση από την οθωμανική κυριαρχία κορυφώνονται. Ιδιαίτερα στην Ήπειρο, η οποία υπέφερε από κύματα μαζικών εξισλαμισμών, η προσδοκία για αποκατάσταση της χριστιανικής βασιλείας, όπως περιγράφεται στην Αποκάλυψη του Ιωάννη και στις διδαχές του Κοσμά του Αιτωλού, ενδεχομένως να οδήγησε το 1787 στην επιλογή να συμπεριληφθούν ορισμένες σκηνές της στο εικονογραφικό πρόγραμμα του κυρίως ναού της νεόδμητης τότε εκκλησίας της Φανερωμένης στο Φορτόσι Κατσανοχωρίων Ιωαννίνων.

During the 18th century the eschatological concerns of the enslaved Greeks intensified, while at the same time their expectations for liberation from Ottoman rule peaked. Especially in the region of Epirus, which suffered from mass Islamization, the expectation for the restoration of the Christian kingdom, as described in the Book of Revelation, might have led, in 1787, the inhabitants of Fortosi, Katsanochoria, to choose some scenes from the prophetic book of John for the decoration of the naos of the newly erected church of Faneromeni.
