Résumé En

In recent years, the archaeology of the Tibetan plateau, and more particularly of adjacent areas in the Himalayan range, has developed considerably. This rapid development has been possible thanks to new contributions from various fields of archaeology relating to petroglyphs, ceramics, archaeobotanical studies, funerary archaeology, built heritage, etc. These new areas of research are helping to improve our knowledge of the prehistoric and historical human occupation of the Himalayas, which is still poorly understood due, mainly, to the scarcity – or total absence – of written sources. In this panel, we invite archaeologists, and specialists in related fields, to present their ongoing research in an effort to discuss and compare recent findings. Our aim is to engage in subjects such as the chronology and type of the occupation in the region, related material culture, as well as the cultural and material exchange taking place along the Himalayas and Tibetan plateau throughout history. Finally, we also hope to be able to discuss further steps that should be taken in order to develop Tibetan and Himalayan archaeological research.
