The ardéchois physician Jos Jullien (1877-1956), a scientist with an extraordinary career – Doctor Jos Jullien is certainly one of the most emblematic twentieth-century figures in Ardèche. Great War hero decorated with the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre, he was also a tenacious prehistorian who led to substantial progress in Vivarais history, a humanistic politician, a famous artist and a tireless physician-researcher Laureate of the Academy of Medicine. In the early 1930s, he investigate Malta fever, responsible for the epidemic in Mediterranean areas for severed decades, and develops one of the first curative treatments available on the market, Paronduline, commercialized by Ducatte Laboratories. His research has led him to offer thermal treatments as an effective way to fight against physiological disorders following brucellosis. A new medical specialty emerge in his works : thermal hydrobiology, and the creation of a new range of cosmetics : Biotherm.

Le docteur Jos Jullien est certainement l’une des figures ardéchoises du XXe siècle les plus emblématiques. Héros de la grande guerre, décoré de la Légion d’honneur et de la Croix de Guerre, il fut aussi un préhistorien acharné qui permit des avancées majeures sur l’histoire du Vivarais, un homme politique humaniste, un artiste reconnu et un médecin-chercheur infatigable, lauréat de l’Académie de médecine. Dès la fin des années 20, il étudie la fièvre de Malte, responsable d’une épidémie qui se développe dans les régions méditerranéennes depuis plusieurs décennies, et met au point l’un des premiers traitements curatifs disponibles sur le marché, la Paronduline, commercialisé par les Laboratoires Ducatte. Ses recherches l’amènent ensuite à proposer les traitements thermaux comme un moyen efficace de lutte contre les troubles physiologiques consécutifs à la brucellose. De ses investigations nait une discipline nouvelle : l’hydrobiologie thermale, et la création d’une nouvelle gamme de cosmétiques : Biotherm.
