"The main interest of this article lies inunderstanding the connections between managingsanitation technologies and managing peopleby means of so-called health education interventionstowards the same purpose and aim. It analyzesthe training of two categories of professionalswho were of crucial importance for the actionsof the Special Service of Health (1942-1960) andwhose existence as such seems to express the indissolublelink between the concepts technique andhuman being: sanitation guards and sanitationeducators. By investigating the instruction manualsand course programs, this study aims at graspingthe values and ideas about the health/diseaseprocess and the relationship between the humanbeing and the environment valid at that time, aswell as at understanding the functions of the sanitationguards and educators."
