Biofuels introduce agricultural spaces in energy production. Then they modify the governance of energy networks and productive territories. The main critics to biofuels are made to their production from traditional crops, but it interests to also ask on the sustainability of their production from alternative crops, that would not compete with food crops since they would be located in marginal agricultural regions. The text relocates South America countries biofuel productions, in their international, national and local contexts. The study focuses on Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, continental leaders in the sector. We analyze the evolution of energy market, involved actors and implemented policies. At another scale, we consider the implementation of alternative biofuel chains
