Résumé 0

Current evolutions in the nuances of what “believing” in Islam entails can only be understood through the perspective of global interactions. The tensions in these interactions stem, among other things, from global inequalities, the bipolarization of the world, and history, particularly colonialism. The incitation for certain French adolescents and young adults who have a relation with Islam to return to an orthodox form of Islam should be understood within this context. Difficulties fitting in with society, along with identity confusion, can lead to a specific relationship with spirituality, or even encourage these young people to withdraw into orthodoxy—an orthodoxy that is in reality reinvented. A journey of religious radicalization, that of Oum Hobeïd, shows us that the messages of radicalization are based on a challenging of the world order and contain illusions of revenge, redemption, dignity, and absolute equality beyond death. They give the illusion of a new fraternity.
