Martin Luther develops an understanding of the Gospel where freedom and servitude point to the same reality – the relationship between God and the human being – from two different and complementary perspectives. The notions of freedom and servitude, approached from a systematic perspective, are themselves polysemic and their articulations vary on anthropological, theological, soteriological, political and ethical levels. The Gospel founds freedom of conscience by freeing it from the servitude of sin and simultaneously by making it captive to the Spirit of freedom. Freedom is fulfilled in service.

Martin Luther développe une compréhension de l’Évangile où liberté et servitude désignent la même réalité – la relation entre Dieu et l’être humain – considérée sous deux angles à la fois différents et complémentaires. Les notions de liberté et de servitude, abordées dans une perspective systématique, sont elles-mêmes polysémiques et leurs articulations, diverses sur les plans anthropologique, théologique, sotériologique, politique et éthique. L’Évangile fonde la liberté de la conscience en la libérant de la servitude du péché et simultanément en la rendant captive de l’Esprit de liberté. La liberté s’accomplit dans le service.
