Our system of psychotherapy training is internally shaped by our way of thinking about the “object” of care: the human being that we both are and have to treat. The first part of this study aims to comment on this complexity that makes psychotherapy unique. What is it about human existence that exposes us to (psycho)pathology? What is it about the human encounter that can turn out to be healing? With reference to phenomenological thought, the authors examine the singular status of the pathic phenomenon, around which psychopathology and psychotherapy are articulated. The term “pathic” refers to the multifaceted vulnerability that defines our human condition. It is also a sign of our openness, our fundamental sensitivity to what happens in encounters. As such, it is an integral factor of the therapeutic function. In the second part, we address the question of how to design psychotherapy training that fully takes into account this involvement of the caregiver.

Notre dispositif de formation à la psychothérapie est intérieurement travaillé par notre façon de penser « l’objet » du soin : l’humain qu’à la fois nous sommes et avons à traiter. La première partie de cette étude qui fait l’objet du présent article vise à commenter ce nœud qui fait la singularité de la psychothérapie. Qu’est-ce qui, dans l’existence humaine, nous expose à la (psycho)pathologie ? Qu’est-ce qui, dans la rencontre interhumaine, peut s’avérer soignant ? En référence à la pensée phénoménologique, les auteurs examinent le statut singulier du phénomène pathique autour duquel s’articulent psychopathologie et psychothérapie. Le « pathique » renvoie à la vulnérabilité multiforme qui marque notre condition humaine. Il signe aussi notre ouverture, notre sensibilité fondamentale à ce qui se produit dans la rencontre ; comme tel, il est constitutif de la fonction thérapeutique. Dans une seconde partie, nous aborderons la question de savoir comment développer une formation à la psychothérapie qui tienne rigoureusement compte de cette implication du soignant.
