‪This article focuses on the making of a documentary film on the cultural revival within the ‪ ‪Mā’ohi‪‪ Protestant Church in French Polynesia. ‪ Pain ou coco. Moorea et les deux traditions ( Bread or Coconut. ‪Moorea and the Two Traditions‪‪) shows the various responses to this revival, generating an opposition between “traditional” and “cultural” local churches. Through the genealogy of the project, the examination of the practical conditions of filming and the reactions that followed the broadcasting of the documentary, I analyze the methodological and reflexivity issues at stakes in the filming approach.‪

Cet article revient sur la réalisation d’un documentaire consacré au renouveau culturel dans l’Église protestante mā’ohi de Polynésie française. Pain ou coco. Moorea et les deux traditions montre les différentes modalités d’appropriation de ce renouveau, débouchant sur une opposition entre paroisses « traditionnelles » et « culturelles ». À travers la généalogie du projet, l’examen des conditions pratiques de tournage et des réactions suscitées par la diffusion du documentaire, cet article analyse les enjeux méthodologiques et de réflexivité associés à la démarche filmique.
