François de Menthon : the forgotten French Minister of Justice (September 4th, 1943 – May 30th, 1945)François de Menthon, a jurist and a political economics professor, was appointed as the Justice commissioner of Alger in 1943. As he was the first Minister of Justice of the newly freed France, he was the one who set up legal purge at the Liberation. Both a defender of the Catholic Church and a man dedicated to the Republic, he endeavoured to “bring together Justice and the nation”
