Résumé 0

This article, based on a study of the effects of France’s 2020 COVID-19 lockdown periods on interpersonal relations, discusses the contributions of mixed methods to sociology of social ties in times of crisis. Using the first two waves of the longitudinal “VICO” survey (“Life in lockdown”) and 90 qualitative interviews, it shows several possible ways of combining data, methods, and results. The analysis focuses on relationships that deteriorated during lockdown, while pointing up the limitations of a geometric data analysis approach in this case, as it fails to capture the plurality of relationship profiles. Analytically, the interviews substantiate findings on the dynamics and time frames of relationship deterioration. Empirically, the qualitative material enriches the data on relationships generated by the questionnaire. In sum, data and method transfers and combinations shed light on the links between relational roles and types of relationship deterioration.
