Résumé 0

This article discusses the famous Balzacian tone, consisting of a polyphonic narratorial enunciation involving interruptions, discourses, and counter-discourses. Examining this from a stylistic perspective, I shall show that a novelistic enunciative organization can be seen in Le Cousin Pons (as analyzed by Balzac scholars in terms of the variety of the narrator’s speech and the involvement of the narratee). However, I shall underline how the seriousness of this enunciation is significantly undermined by different forms of irony.
