Élisabeth Longuenesse, « Social sciences in Lebanon: A mirror of social fragmentation and foreign dependence », Confluences Méditerranée, ID : 10670/1.fd53cd...
What do social science works tell us about a Lebanese society whose reality is often masked by a mass of misleading stereotypes? What knowledge of the Lebanese society is produced – and taught? In which framework and under which conditions, to what extent, is this production of knowledge able to enlighten the economic and political, public, and private actors. A recent book sheds light on the conditions of knowledge production in the social sciences and their limits, and in so doing offers us a panorama that is as fascinating as it is revealing of the difficulties of structuring a “field of social sciences”, which mirrors the fragmentation and extraversion of Lebanese society.
