Résumé 0

From 1945 to 1962, in Indochina and Algeria, France had to deal with two wars of independence. Nationalist forces used the people they had made prisoners to weigh upon the power balance with the colonial power. Comparing these two French captivities in a colonial context allows us to examine their similarities (agents, issues. . .) as well as their observed specificities (context, number, organization). The authors are thus led to refine their description of these conflicts, and question, in the long-tem, the lessons drawn from these experiences and their effects on narratives of memory.
