The role of the syllable and rhyme in language production: Evidencefrom Spanish speech errors. This paper attempts to present empiricalevidence on the role of the syllable and its constituents in languageproduction. With this aim, we analyzed the slips of the tongue produced bySpanish speakers in spontaneous speech situations. More specifically, wefocused on a type of speech error, blends or fusions. It was found that thesyllable and rhyme integrity was preserved (with a probability greater thanchance) in the switch point between the two words of the blend. Theseresults suggest that both units are involved in phonological encoding
