At the beginning, there is the discovery in January 2012 of a real project: the future building of a Japanese city in the south of India. And next, that of a hypothesis: this city could be a refuge for the Japanese elite in the event of another nuclear disaster. Then comes a double question: what state of the world allows the projection of such a "refuge"? And what future does it propose to anticipate in return? It is a few months after the triple disaster of 2011, a few months after "the day when Japan almost disappeared" and the city that is about to emerge from the arid steppe of Tamil Nadu is providentially named Omega (the last one). It takes no more than that for it to summon, between the New World and Noah's Ark, the great tales about the foundation and decline of our civilizations. Yet how does this city upset their essential paradigms that paralyses the unfolding of this new story? Through a protean proposal (texts, films and installations), between India and Japan, fabulations and nostalgia, this work attempts to give substance to the city of Omega and at the same time questions the capacity of cinema to think and narrate the loss of a world.

À l’origine, il y a la découverte en janvier 2012 d’un projet réel : la future construction d’une ville japonaise dans le sud de l’Inde. Et celle d'une hypothèse : cette ville pourrait constituer un refuge pour l'élite japonaise en cas de nouvelle catastrophe nucléaire. Arrive ensuite une double interrogation : quel état du monde permet la projection d'un tel « refuge » ? Et quels devenirs propose-t-il d'anticiper en retour ? Nous sommes quelques mois après la triple catastrophe de 2011, quelques mois après « le jour où le Japon a failli disparaître » et la ville qui s’apprête à surgir de la steppe aride du Tamil Nadu est providentiellement baptisée Omega (la dernière). Il n’en faut pas plus pour qu’elle convoque, entre Nouveau Monde et Arche de Noé, les grands récits de fondation et de déclin de nos civilisations. Que vient-elle pourtant bouleverser de leurs paradigmes essentiels qui paralyse le déploiement de cette nouvelle histoire ? À travers une proposition protéiforme (textes, films et installations), entre Inde et Japon, fabulations et nostalgies, ce travail tente de donner corps à la ville d'Omega et interroge dans le même temps la capacité du cinéma à penser et à mettre en récit la perte d’un monde.
