Lexical borrowing is one of the most obvious consequences of contact between language communities. The rapid increase in the number of English borrowings in German, particularly since the end of the Second World War, has been the subject of an abundant literature. The "short words" (German "Kurzwörter") borrowed from English, which constitute a particularly interesting category, remain largely neglected by research. In contemporary German, however, this type of anglicisms, which is common in specialty languages, particularly in the field of new technologies, in certain sociolects (youth language) and in colloquial language, is now an inescapable phenomenon. We will first present the main types of short words borrowed from English, and then explore the extent to which these abbreviations have been integrated into contemporary German.

L’emprunt lexical compte parmi les conséquences les plus manifestes du contact entre communautés linguistiques. L’augmentation rapide du nombre d’emprunts à l’anglais en allemand, notamment depuis la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, fait l’objet d’une abondante littérature. Les « mots brefs » (all. « Kurzwörter ») empruntés à l’anglais, qui constituent une catégorie particulièrement intéressante, restent largement délaissés par la recherche. En allemand contemporain, ce type d’anglicismes, fréquent dans les langues de spécialité, notamment dans le domaine des nouvelles technologies, dans certains sociolectes (langue des jeunes) et dans la langue familière, est pourtant désormais un phénomène incontournable. Il s’agira pour nous de présenter les principaux types de mots brefs empruntés à l’anglais avant de sonder le degré d’intégration de ces résultats d’abrègement en allemand contemporain.
