"In this paper we seriously entertain the question, Ismaternal deprivation the root of all evil? Our considerationof this question is broken down into threeparts. In the first part, we discuss the nature of evil,focusing in particular on the legal concept ofdepravity. In the second part, we discuss the nurtureof evil, focusing in particular on the common developmentaltrajectory seen in those who are depraved.In the third part, we discuss the roots of evil, focusingin particular on the animal and human researchregarding maternal deprivation. Our conclusion isthat maternal deprivation may actually be the root ofall evil, but only because depraved individuals havebeen deprived of normative maternal care, which isthe cradle of our humanity."
