Résumé 0

"Sirena Selena vestida de pena (2000), by Puerto Ricanauthor Mayra Santos-Febres, is analyzed through theeyes of a fictitious character named Fredi Veláscues.Structured in three sections, this essay tackles threethemes in the young transvestite’s story. The firstpart undertakes the axiomatic analogy betweenPuerto Rican Divine and Selena and DominicanHugo and Leocadio, while explaining the way inwhich these main characters constitute, in ovo, cubic binary figures. The second section offers areading of the novel as a Bildungsroman, while thethird segment links the story to Fredric Jameson’scontroversial article Third World Literature in theEra of Multinational Capitalism"
