The unpleasant doubt about weapons of mass destruction The majority of the experts of disarmament believe today that Saddam Hussein did not posses the stockpile of weapons of mass destruction that he was claimed to have had. But the absence of proof is not a proof of their absence and the remaining doubt continues to hinder the final assessment of the quality of the surveillance mechanisms put into place in Iraq by the UN and the International Agency of Atomic Energy from 1991 to 2003.
