Résumé En

This chapter draws on the correspondence between Nikolai Sheremetev, the owner of an active private theatre in Russia, and his French commissioner Hivart. More particularly, it analyses a set of cardboard screens representing scenes from French comedies. Why did they fit into the heart of sociability among affluent circles? How did they become ambassadors of the performing arts and French music, not only in Russia, but in all Europe?
