Observing the generic exhaustion of the American comic books and of their superheroes, authors such as Frenchmen Lehman and Colin have turned to (French) popular literature to find both the origin and a possible renewal of the genre. More than anyone else, Alan Moore offers a deeper reflexion on the comic-book superheroes suggesting three theoretical possibilities: a geographic and cultural transfer from the United-States to continental Europe (and more particularly the United Kingdom), a renewal based on a new definition of the canon of comic books within the literary canon, and the redefinition of the hero in canonical and popular literatures as a new superhero.

Constatant l’épuisement d’un genre : celui des comic books américains et des super-héros dont ils narrent les aventures, certains auteurs comme les français Lehman et Colin ont cherché dans la littérature populaire française à la fois l’origine et le possible renouveau du genre. Alan Moore est sans contexte celui qui a poussé le plus loin cette réflexion sur les super-héros de bande-dessinée en proposant trois pistes : un transfert géographique et culturel des États-Unis vers la vieille Europe (et plus particulièrement le Royaume-Uni), un renouvellement ancré sur la redéfinition du canon des comic books au sein du canon préexistant de la littérature, une redéfinition du héros de roman de la littérature canonique et populaire comme super-héros par excellence.
