Lucia Daubigny, « Science et bon sens. La prise en charge médicale de l’obésité », Face à face, ID : 10670/1.haa8zs
Obesity, like its opposite, thinness, has a prominent place in our society, where it is heavy with symbolism. This is also true in medical practice and likewise in scientific literature. This article analyses the influence of symbolic constructions of obesity in medical publications aimed at a readership of general practitioners. The author distinguishes two discursive modes. This study shows that scientific texts, which rely on concepts, also resort occasionally to stating the obvious. The author also clearly shows that treatment for those who are overweight is more in response to social expectations than for urgent medical reasons.
