The field of higher education and research (ESR) in France is now beginning to be well analyzed from the perspective of social inequalities and their evolution in general. It is much less so from the perspective of discrimination - an issue that is subject to ambiguous institutional recognition and still in its infancy in terms of scientific evaluation. Political recognition, scientific knowledge and public action are thus to be built simultaneously on a major issue, which has so far remained neglected.
