Résumé En

Attic vase paintings allow us to understand what clothing may have signified in cultic contexts in the 6th century BCE. Indeed, any detail featuring a vase painting points to a general discourse about reality, rather than to reality itself. Clothing, especially, may be seen as a polysemic sign usedto express various thoughts about the function and meaning of cults in Athenian Archaic society.
