Île de rêve, lieu des commencements ou des incessantes invasions, terre de malédiction, population à filiation anthropophage, à ascendance celte ou atlante : autant d’éléments constitutifs du patrimoine identitaire et culturel de la Corse dont les racines plongent au plus profond de l’histoire, de l’imaginaire et du symbolique. Pour examiner et analyser certains de ces éléments dans leurs diverses facettes, l’article prend le parti d’un positionnement aux marges entre réalité et fiction, en un lieu où naissent et se transmettent des objets culturels et identitaires nommés ici « monstres anthropologiques ». À la fois données de fait et pures fantasmagories, objets d’étude scientifique ou délices de l’ésotérisme, leur prégnance et leur ancrage dans la mémoire collective leur font enfin mériter de devenir objets d’une approche anthropologique.

An island of dreams. A place of beginnings and of endless invasions. A cursed land, with a population whose forefathers practised cannibalism. A population of Celtic origin, or from Atlantis. These are some of the elements which go to make up the Corsican cultural heritage and sense of identity, an island whose roots go back to the depths of history, and to the depths of collective imagination and symbolic structuring. In order to examine and analyse the different facets of certain factors, the article opts for a perspective located on the margins, between reality and fiction, a site where certain objects, vectors of culture and of identity, emerge and are transmitted. These vectors are here defined as « anthropological monsters ». Their status is both factual and fantastical. Their study is a matter both of scientific inquiry and of esoteric indulgence. Thanks to their force and to their roots in collective memory they deserve to be considered by way of an anthropological inquiry.

ZusammenfassungTrauminsel, Ort beginnender und nicht enden wollender Invasionen, Land der Verfluchten, der Bevölkerung mit menschenfressenden Ahnen keltischer oder atlantischer Abstammung : all das sind konstitutive Elemente des identitären und kulturellen Erbes Korsikas, die in den Tiefen der Geschichte, den Vorstellungen und in der korsischen Symbolik verwurzelt sind. Um einige dieser Elemente in ihren unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen zu untersuchen, begibt sich der Autor auf einen Grad zwischen Realität und Fiktion, an den Ort der Überlieferung der kulturellen und identitären Elemente, die er als « anthropologische Monster » bezeichnet. Als Tatsachen und zugleich reine Phantasmen, als Objekte wissenschaftlicher Arbeit und als Hochgenuss des Esoterischen sowie durch ihre Beharrlichkeit und Verwurzelung im kollektiven Gedächtnis, verdienen sie es, so der Autor, endlich Gegenstand einer anthropologischen Herangehensweise zu werden.
