Situated at the border of the Biturige, Arverne and Lemovice territories, the oppidum of Château- meillant-Mediolanum was ideally located for long-distance trade. After Caesar’s conquest of Gaul, the site continued to be occupied, with the development of a Gallo-Roman agglomeration. Today, mapping of the site offers an overall view of the settlement and its spatial organisation, as well as its chronology, from its origins to the medieval period.

Situé aux confins des cités biturige, arveme et lémovice, l'oppidum de Châteaumeillant-Mediolanum disposait d’un emplacement privilégié qui a pu être exploité pour le commerce à longue distance. Après la conquête de la Gaule par César, le site n’est pas délaissé et une agglomération gallo-romaine se développe dans la continuité de l’occupation protohistorique. La cartographie des vestiges permet d’avoir aujourd’hui une vision globale du site, et d’appréhender son organisation spatiale ainsi que sa chronologie, depuis son origine jusqu’à la période médiévale.
