The second transition studied in the context of the programme TransMonDyn took place on the African continent. It concerns the expansion of the Bantu-speaking populations, which began between 4,000 and 5,000 years ago. This expansion is connected with the development of agriculture and saw an encounter between the Bantu and communities of Central African forest foragers who lived in the ‘rainforest’.
