Résumé En

The notion of ‘cadastre’ is frequently used by archaeologists and historians in relation to Greek land tenure systems. It is used to describe either traces of land division, mainly found in the territories of colonial cities, or documents, mainly epigraphic, that have been called ‘cadastre’, ‘cadastral list’, or ‘cadastral-based document’, for very different periods, from the Archaic period to Late Antiquity. The present investigation proposes to revisit this modern concept and to explore its relevance to the realia of the Greek world: indeed, the word ‘cadastre’ and those of its family have few correspondences in ancient Greek and their use is delicate if one does not question the practices of the Greeks in terms of registration of property and their way of conceptualizing and representing the division of land.
