Jean-Pierre Chassagne, « Écriture de rupture et contournement des genres dans les romans de Leo Perutz », Études Germaniques, ID : 10670/1.i3c0rs
With utter impertinence, Perutz’s writing as rupture infiltrates into popular literary genres (thrillers, fantasy and historical novels), thereby subverting their codes and short-circuiting the reader’s expectations. Rupturing the literary framework and using mise en abyme result from sceptical deconstruction which undermines the system of our cognitive universe ; however, it does not spoil the reader’s pleasure in any manner whatsoever. The element of surprise springs from the narrative craftiness the author applies to disrupt his readers’ habits and mislead them down the trails he originally pretended to outline.
