Si à Rome le péril communiste rend plus fréquentable le vieil ennemi libéral, le virage atlantiste de Pie XII, appuyé sur la notion d’« Occident chrétien », se heurte en ces bastions catholiques à un nationalisme viscéralement antilibéral et hostile aux États-Unis, conduisant aux profondes tensions que révèle le populisme panlatin de Perón.
