American Evangelicals produce a great number of pastoral studies on mentoring. These studies are a part of a larger field of research called “discipleship”. Discipleship can be defined as Christian practices focused on spiritual growth, integrated into a relational practice called “disciple-making”. Disciple-makers give value to an intentional biblical process lived in small group settings. They blend many approaches (counselling, coaching, mentoring and leadership) to equip lay people for fulfilling the Great Commission (Mt 28,19-20). This article presents “mentoring” as a new field of research for French-speaking Catholic practitioners, trainers and scholars.
