A number of very difficult problems are associated with noxious gas compression by glandless fully sealed machines. Gas thrust bearings are necessary to balance axial thrust where no oil can be used. The machine described has no shaft and is of the verticle-axis type. Its impeller, the only moving part, runs on a hydrostatic bearing fed directly from the compresser discharge. Starting may be achieved by separate blowing, or by lifting on a pad, or elsee by friction on special materials. Centring and drive are both magnetic.

La compression de gaz nocifs avec machines entièrement étanches et sans presse-étoupe impose divers problèmes très ardus. Entre autres, l’équilibrage axial des poussées fait appel aux butées à gaz si l’emploi d’huile est proscrit. La machine décrite ci-après est à axe vertical et ne comporte aucun arbre. La roue, seul organe mobile, est portée par un palier hydrostatique recevant son soufflage directement du refoulement du compresseur. Le démarrage peut se faire soit par soufflage séparé, soit par soulèvement sur un grain, soit par frottement sur des matériaux spéciaux. Le centrage et l’entraînement sont magnétiques.
